Jesus the Only Savior

By Michael Youssef, Ph D.  07/29/21

Read John 3:16-19, 31-36.

John Stott once said, “Christianity is a rescue religion.” Christianity announces the Good News of salvation. You see, each one of us is born with our back to God, heading for hell and destruction (see Romans 6:23). “But don’t worry: Jesus was a good teacher.” What? No and a million nos! Jesus is infinitely more than a teacher; He is Savior, just as He claimed (see John 14:6).

Secular culture makes Him out to be a liar, reducing Him to just a great teacher—implying He’s like Alexander the Great or Napoleon the Great. But Jesus was not the great. Jesus is the only. Jesus is unique. He has no peer, no rival. He has no predecessor, and He has no successor. He is unique because He is the only Savior, and He’s alive and active today!

Jesus became a man, died on the cross for our sins, and rose again to rescue us—not just advise us, exhort us, or teach us. He came to save us from our brokenness and isolation and bring us into a new relationship with Himself. He came to save us from the just judgment of our sin and give us eternal, abundant life. And one day soon, He will make our salvation complete when He returns to make all things new.

Jesus is unique in the sense of His exclusiveness. There is no one like Him: “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). Is He your Savior and Lord?

Prayer: Jesus, I know You came to save. I rest in You alone for my eternal salvation. Thank You for freeing me and making me new, that I might follow You—my delight and reward—all my days. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him” (John 3:17).
